Well yesterday was BC's first ever family day, that is unless you happen to be an employee of the federal government, and then you are already part of a much bigger family anyway so I guess it doesn't really matter. Anyway our family headed down to Boundary Bay Beach for a scavenger hunt of epic proportions. Unfortunately the weather was not so inclined to favor epic scavenger hunts on the beach but it was a beautiful day in its' own right, regardless of the weather. For dinner we headed over to the grandparents house to celebrate the Lunar New Year with some take out Chinese food and lots of little red envelopes and other goodies. All in all, I am now fully converted to the idea of family day. February was in need of a holiday to break the gap between New Years and Easter, and now we have one. Thank you oh giver of fun Liberal leader C. Clark for making me believe you care.. if only for a nanosecond.
Last weekend, I set my trusty PVR to record an episode of the CBS hit show "Elementary" that aired after the Superbowl. Well it turns out my PVR is not quite as ingenious as I had originally thought. 40 minutes in the show ended, leaving me dangling over the edge of the proverbial cliff. So I scrambled upstairs to my trustworthy computer, near instantaneously jumped to the CBS website and prepared to find out how my dear television show ended.....
and then it happened...."Content not available in your area"...!!!! What the "insert exclamative" does this mean? Does Ladner have an online exclusion I was unaware of? Turns out my "area" is in fact Canada. The whole country can not watch a tv show online that I can watch on my television? I can gamble online, watch people die, break bones, shoot each other, have "marital relations", and whatever else my mind can think of.... but I can't watch network television???? I go now to find out a) who's policy is this (guessing CRTC) b) what is the best work around to bypass this super annoying issue..
If you know a simple way to bypass this annoyance, feel free to share it in the comments sections or via email.
At first I thought the end of the penny made sense from a strictly economical sense. This clearly appealed to the penny pincher aspects of my personality. Then I considered the slippery slope and I realized this wasn't penny ante poker our government was playing. I say if we are in for a penny we are in for a pound (or Kilogram more correctly). I would suggest that it would be considerably more penny-wise to be rid of all coins that are not multiples of ten. Personally I find the nickel to be disproportionately clunky. Why is it so much bigger than a dime? So bye bye nickel. While I am sharing my two-cents worth, I don't really care for the quarter either, I say replace it with a similarly sized 50 cent piece, with a picture of the rapper 50 cent on it. Teens will think it is hip to save money then. Ideally the "fiddy cent piece" would be about 5 times bigger than a dime. My plan would definitely save our society a pretty penny in the long run, and we all know that a penny saved is a penny earned. If we keep playing with our currency without at least this level of thought, we will soon not even have two pennies left to rub together.
Oh, and I guess it will be time to weed out some of these "old expressions". Like my children didn't already think I was old fashioned talking about Walkmans and tape decks.. now I have to stop saying penny!!! This just in however, now all coins in ponds will be magnetic and trolling for change with rare earth magnets and fishing line will be hugely more profitable.
Ok, so the fabulous furry Phil saw his shadow on Saturday.....so what does that mean? Well if you are a believer (move over Santa and Big Bunny) then spring will be a little earlier than usual this year. Just so we are clear, I always try to pick a groundhog that predicts an early spring, simply because I am dying for the return of that bright orange ball in the sky. I am not having a hard time believing it this year as I have flowers up and out already... They are little white bulbs that I have no idea what the names of are.
Welcome Home Early Spring!!!!
